This short art film by the Turkish director Sis Gurdal is inspired by European art of the 17th and 18th centuries that depicted the Ottoman Harems as subject only of male fantasies thus perpetuating the image of the Oriental women as an embodiment of mystery, suppression and of sexual license.
Soraïa will portray the Musical Mahrifuz, character inspired by the historical figure Roxelana, who made her way up in rank of the harem to become the chief consort and legal wife of the Ottoman Sultan Suleyman the Magnificient.
On top of playing such an iconic role she was even more thrilled as she had to bring in her performance her dance training.
